A transparent background means there is no colour behind the subject at all — just the subject, with full alpha transparency everywhere else. This is the format you need for stickers, design overlays, thumbnail graphics, profile photos, presentation assets, and any image that will be composited on top of other content. The AI selects the most prominent subject in the image and removes everything else, outputting a transparent PNG compatible with any design tool, CMS, or web page.
Tips for the cleanest cutout
- For portraits and photos of people, switch to "People & portraits" mode — MODNet handles skin tone and hair significantly better than the general model for human subjects.
- For logos, products, objects, and illustrations, "Any subject" mode (pre-selected) is the right choice.
- The more distinct the subject from its background — in colour, tone, or sharpness — the more accurate the cutout.
- For complex scenes (outdoor backgrounds, cluttered desks, busy patterns), expect some edge imprecision — plain backdrops always give cleaner results.
What to watch for
How to Use
- 1
Select your mode: "People & portraits" for photos of people, or "Any subject" (pre-selected) for everything else.
- 2
Drop your image (PNG, JPEG, or WebP) onto the upload area, or click to browse.
- 3
On first use with your chosen mode, the AI model downloads and caches permanently — People mode is ~25 MB, Any subject is ~43 MB.
- 4
Review the transparent result on the checkerboard preview, then download the PNG.

How to Remove an Image Background Without Uploading ItFrequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a transparent background and a white background?
A transparent background (alpha = 0) has no colour — whatever is underneath shows through when you place the PNG in a design. A white background is opaque white that blocks what is underneath. Use transparent when compositing the subject over other content; use white when you need a standalone image that will always appear on a white surface.
Why does the output have to be PNG?
PNG is the most widely supported format with a full alpha channel (per-pixel transparency). JPEG has no alpha channel at all and cannot store transparency. WebP supports alpha but is less universally accepted in design tools, presentation software, and document editors. PNG works everywhere.
How do I use a transparent PNG in PowerPoint or Google Slides?
Insert the PNG as an image — in PowerPoint use Insert → Pictures; in Google Slides use Insert → Image → Upload from computer. Because the background is transparent, the slide background shows through automatically. You can move and resize the subject freely over any slide background or layer it on top of other content.
