Change Background

Put a transparent cutout on a new color, gradient, or photo — drag to fit, then export. Nothing leaves your browser.

Once a subject has a transparent background — from Remove Background or the Make Background Transparent tool — the next step is often putting it on something new: a brand color for a product listing, a gradient for a social post, or a different photo entirely for a composite. This tool draws the subject and its new background onto an HTML Canvas element directly in your browser — dragging to reposition, resizing with a corner handle or a slider, and exporting as a PNG or JPG when it looks right. No file is ever uploaded to a server at any point. If you drop in an image that still has an opaque background, the tool detects it and offers to send it to Remove Background first, so you are never stuck with a white box behind your subject.

How to Use

  1. 1

If the image doesn't have a transparent background yet, click through to Remove Background first, then come back.

  3. 3

Choose a new background: a solid color, a two-color gradient with a direction, or a photo you upload from your device.

  4. 4

Drag the subject to reposition it, or drag a corner handle (or the size slider) to resize it — the aspect ratio always stays locked.

  5. 5

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a transparent PNG to use this tool?

Yes — the subject needs a transparent background for a new one to show through cleanly. If your image doesn't have transparency yet, the tool detects this and offers to send it straight to Remove Background first.

Can I use a photo I already removed the background from?

Yes. If you just used Remove Background or Make Background Transparent, the resulting cutout is offered automatically here — no need to re-download and re-upload it.

What background options are available?

A solid color of your choice, a two-color gradient with a direction control, or a photo you upload from your device. Uploaded background photos are automatically scaled and cropped to fill the canvas regardless of their original dimensions.

Can I resize and reposition the subject?

Yes. Drag the subject to move it anywhere on the canvas, or drag a corner handle to resize it — the aspect ratio is always preserved, so nothing gets stretched or squashed. A size slider and a "Fit to canvas" button are also available.

Should I export as PNG or JPG?

Either works — once a new background is applied, the whole image is fully opaque, so there is no transparency left to preserve. PNG is lossless; JPG produces a smaller file. Choose JPG if file size matters more than the small amount of extra compression.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The entire composite — background fill, positioning, and export — happens on an HTML Canvas element in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere. Open your browser's Network tab while using the tool to confirm.
