Convert HEIC to JPG

Free, private, and instant — your files never leave your device.

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on iPhones since iOS 11. It uses HEVC compression to store images roughly half the size of an equivalent JPEG — impressive, but a serious compatibility problem everywhere else. Android, Windows (before a paid codec pack), Linux, most web platforms, email clients, and photo-sharing sites cannot open HEIC files. JPEG has been universally supported since the 1990s and opens in every piece of software that touches photos. Converting HEIC to JPG makes your iPhone photos shareable anywhere, without special software, on any device.

How to Use

  1. 1

Drop your HEIC or HEIF file — the output format is already set to JPEG.

  2. 2

Adjust the quality slider. 85–90% is indistinguishable from the original in most photographs.

  3. 3

Click "Convert to JPEG" — the HEIC is decoded in your browser using a built-in converter; your photo never leaves your device.

  4. 4

Download the JPG and share it anywhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I open HEIC files on Windows or Android?

HEIC uses HEVC (H.265) compression, and HEVC playback requires a licensed codec. Windows 10/11 can open HEIC after installing a paid Microsoft codec; older Windows and most Android devices cannot. Converting to JPEG removes this dependency entirely.

Will the JPEG look as good as the original HEIC?

At quality settings of 85% or above, the difference is imperceptible in photographs. HEIC's HEVC-based compression is more efficient than JPEG's DCT algorithm, so the JPEG will be somewhat larger than the HEIC at equivalent quality.

Can I stop my iPhone from shooting in HEIC in the first place?

Yes — go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose "Most Compatible." Your iPhone will shoot in JPEG from that point on. For existing photos, conversion is the only option.

Is my iPhone photo private when I use this converter?

Yes. All conversion runs in your browser using JavaScript. Your HEIC file is never uploaded to any server — it is read, decoded, and re-encoded entirely on your device.

Does converting HEIC to JPG remove the EXIF metadata (date, GPS, camera settings)?

This converter focuses on pixel conversion and does not copy EXIF metadata to the output JPEG. If you need to preserve GPS location, capture date, or camera settings, use a tool that explicitly supports EXIF transfer.
